Tacoma Athletic Commission names Hillyer and Rodriguez Pierce's Athletes of the Year
The Tacoma Athletic Commission recently honored the Outstanding Female and Male Athletes for 2018-19, for the four colleges and universities in Pierce County. Jocelyn Hillyer, the all-everything All-American, who led the Raider Volleyball team on their historic run this past Fall, was named the Outstanding Female Athlete at Pierce College for 2018-19. Carlos Rodriguez, the goal scoring sensation for the Raider Men's Soccer team was recognized as this year's Outstanding Male Athlete for the Raiders.

Hillyer, wife to an active duty member of the U.S. Army and mother of one, led Raider Volleyball to an undefeated league season (14-0) and a second consecutive West Region title. The Raiders captured Third Place at the Northwest Athletic Conference championships, hosted by Pierce College at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center. She led the conference in total blocks and blocks per set, and was among the conference leaders in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage. Jocelyn was named the Baden WesternRegion Athlete of the Week four times, and the Under Armour Conference Athlete of the Week once. She topped off her amazing sophomore season by being selected as a First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Both will be continuing their educational and athletic careers at The Evergreen State College this coming Fall.
The Tacoma Athletic Commission is a sports-minded civic organization which raises funds, stages events, and recognizes the athletic achievements of fellow citizens in Pierce County. It is dedicated to youth and sports. The TAC celebrated it's 75th anniversary in 2018.
