Raiders Open West Region Play with Narrow 50-45 Loss to Highline
The Pierce Raiders women’s basketball team opened West Region play on Saturday afternoon, dropping a hard-fought 50-45 contest to the Highline Thunderbirds.
In a defensive battle from start to finish, both teams traded baskets throughout the night as the Raiders stayed within striking distance until the final minutes. The loss moves Pierce to 0-1 in West Region play.
Malea Berridge led the Raiders offensively with 17 points, while also adding 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Jane Wanjiku chipped in 10 points and 2 rebounds, along with 1 steal.
Inside, Alicia-Ellalynn Soliai contributed 6 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block, while Martha Jessop the glass with 11 rebounds to go along with 4 points and 2 assists. Adhau Chol made a strong defensive impact, recording 5 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 blocks.
Despite the Raiders’ defensive effort and rebounding presence, Highline was able to secure the win in the closing moments.
