Raiders Rally Falls Short Against Green River, 64-57
The Pierce Raiders women’s basketball team battled until the final buzzer but came up short against Green River, falling 64-57.
Pierce opened the game with energy, taking a 15-13 lead after the first quarter. The Gators responded in the second, outscoring the Raiders 18-4 to take a 31-19 advantage into halftime.
The Raiders stormed back in the third quarter, putting together their best offensive stretch of the night with 26 points while holding Green River to 14. Pierce cut into the deficit and kept the game within reach heading into the fourth. However, Green River answered down the stretch, outscoring Pierce 19-12 in the final period to secure the win.
Malea Berridge led the Raiders with 16 points, knocking down two three-pointers and adding seven rebounds and four steals. Jane Wanjiku finished with 11 points, seven steals, and two assists, while Martha Jessop provided a strong presence inside with 10 points and nine rebounds in just 18 minutes of action.
Adhau Chol also added 10 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting, along with five rebounds and two blocks. Alicia-Ellalynn Soliai contributed eight rebounds and five assists, and Tia Schanbeck pulled down seven boards to help Pierce control the glass with 46 total rebounds.
As a team, Pierce shot 40.4% from the field and forced 15 steals defensively, but 30 turnovers proved costly in the tightly contested matchup.
