Wanjiku Earns Silver Medal, Two Podium Finishes at NWAC Championships

Representing the Pierce College track and field program on the conference’s biggest stage, Jane Wanjiku delivered an outstanding performance at the NWAC Track & Field Championships with two finals appearances, a silver medal finish, and multiple personal best performances.

Competing in both the women’s 400-meter dash and the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Wanjiku opened the championship meet with a strong showing during day one preliminaries. In the 400m hurdles, she recorded a personal best time of 1:06.56, earning the second seed heading into the finals. She also qualified for the finals in the women’s 400m with a time of 1:03.14, securing the seventh seed.

On championship finals day, Wanjiku elevated her performance even further. In the women’s 400m final, she improved both her time and placement, crossing the finish line in 1:02.37 to earn a fifth-place podium finish against a highly competitive field.

Later in the women’s 400m hurdles final, Wanjiku capped off the weekend with one of the top performances of her season. Holding onto her second-place position from preliminaries, she ran another personal best time of 1:05.81 to claim the silver medal.

Wanjiku’s performance at the conference championships marked one of the strongest championship outings for the Pierce College track and field program, as she returned home with two podium finishes and a new personal record in the hurdles.
