Martinez-Duran Caps Season with Podium Finish at 2025 NWAC Championships
Gabriela Martinez-Duran represented Pierce College with pride at the 2025 NWAC Track and Field Championships, earning a 7th place finish in the Women’s 3000M Steeplechase and standing as the college's lone competitor at the event. Her time of 12:43.02 secured her a spot on the podium and a medal, capping off a season defined by perseverance and improvement.
Martinez-Duran’s performance in the steeplechase marked a significant personal best, beating her previous time of 13:10.74, which she ran earlier this month at the Linfield Open. Her hard work and determination were on full display as she shaved over 25 seconds off her time to climb into the top seven in the NWAC.
In addition to her standout steeplechase performance, Martinez-Duran also competed in the 5,000-meter run. She crossed the line in 14th place with a time of 20:50.04—narrowly improving on her qualifying time of 20:50.57, set just one week earlier at the NWAC North-West Regional Championships. Her NWAC 5K performance was also an improvement on her earlier season finish at the CWU Wildcat Invitational, where she ran a 21:49.11 to place 8th.
Her medaling performance, along with her finishing time in the 5K, marks a successful sophomore campaign for Gabriela at the NWAC Track and Field Championships.
