Raiders Drop Two at Home to Douglas

he Raiders were locked in offensive battles on Wednesday, April 30th against Douglas College, falling 18-15 in game one before dropping game two 11-5. Pierce combined for 25 hits across the doubleheader, including three home runs and seven extra-base hits.

Game 1 - Douglas 18, Pierce 15

Pierce’s offense exploded for 19 hits in a back-and-forth contest that featured multiple lead changes and a seven-run third inning from the Raiders.

After falling behind early, Pierce answered in the first inning when Alosina Fuiava drove in Hallie Beers with an RBI double before Grace Field later scored on a wild pitch. Kaylie Marshall tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI double later in the inning.

Douglas stretched its lead in the second, but the Raiders responded again with a huge offensive frame. Audrey Deviney started the rally with an RBI single before Fuiava added another RBI knock. Marshall then delivered the biggest swing of the game for Pierce, blasting a three-run home run to tie the score at 8-8.

The Raiders continued the momentum in the third inning. Fuiava singled home two runs before Grace Field added an RBI single. Karen Cervantes-Macias gave Pierce the lead with a two-run double, followed by an RBI double from Yzanah Smith and an RBI triple from Shelby Mason to cap a seven-run inning and put Pierce ahead 15-11.

Hallie Beers led the offense with three hits and three runs scored, while Fuiava finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Marshall drove in four runs, including the three-run homer, while Smith added three hits and an RBI. Cervantes-Macias collected two hits and two RBIs in the loss.

Despite the offensive production, Douglas answered late to complete the comeback and take the opener 18-15.

Game 2 - Douglas 11, Pierce 5

Douglas used steady offense throughout the second game to complete the sweep despite another strong showing from the Raider bats.

Pierce tied the game in the second inning after Hallie Beers lined a two-run single that scored Yzanah Smith and Grace Field.

The Raiders continued to battle late in the game with a pair of home runs in the sixth inning. Beers launched a solo homer before Alosina Fuiava followed with a two-run shot to cut into the deficit.

Yzanah Smith had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4, while Grace Field added two hits and scored once. Beers finished with two hits and three RBIs, and Fuiava drove in two runs with her home run.

Karen Cervantes-Macias started in the circle for Pierce, throwing five innings with four strikeouts, while Aspyn Evanson pitched the final two innings in relief.
