Raiders Sweep Cardinals for Second Time

The Pierce Raiders defeated the Skagit Valley Cardinals on Saturday for the second time this season. The Raiders won game one by a score of 9-6 and game two by a score of 5-4.

In game one the Raiders and Cardinals each scored one run in the first inning, but a big six run inning for the Raiders in the top of the fifth inning helped regain the lead after the Cardinals scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. The Cardinals answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning with three more runs, moving the score to 7-5. The Raiders added one two more runs in the top of the sixth inning and managed to hold the Cardinals to just one more run in the game for a final score of 9-6.

Ava Lewis led the Raiders with three hits and two runs. Jenna Bettge, Jazlyn Furuya and Madison Septon each had two two hits in get game, followed by Samthan Tungsvik and Abigail Lindenmuth who each had one hit. The Raiders were aggressive on the base path with a total of seven stolen bases, with Jenna Bette, Vivian Watts, Abigail Lindenmuth, Sidnye Burger, and Kalia Kato each tallying one base, and Ava Lewis stealing two.

Samantha Tungsvik started on the mound for the Raiders, pitching a complete game, striking out four.

In game two the Raiders scored three runs in the top of the third inning, when Ava Lewis started off the inning with a single, followed by Samantha Tungsvik who reached base by an error on the second baseman. Elyssa Barnett stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded and hit a three-run-double. The Raiders added two more runs in the fourth inning when a series of walks and a single loaded the bases again for the Raiders. Vivian Watts earned a walk, advancing each runner one base and scoring a run for the Raiders. Jazlyn Furuya drove in one more run with a single, ending the first half of the inning with a score of 5-1. Skagit Valley rallied through the fourth and fifth inning, managing to piece together three more runs, but the Raiders were able to secure the win with a final score of 5-4.

Vivian Watts pitched all seven innings for the Raiders, giving up zero walks and striking out six.
