The Pierce Raiders closed out their four-game series against Skagit Valley on Sunday, February 22, earning an 8-2 win in game three before capturing the series in dramatic fashion with a walk-off victory in game four - their second walk-off win of the season.
After splitting the first two games on Thursday (a 5-3 loss and a 7-2 win), Pierce surged on Sunday to secure the series win.
Game Three: Pierce 8, Skagit Valley 2
Pierce’s offense came alive in the third game of the series, pounding out 11 hits in an 8-2 victory.
Yacel Limonta and Jackson Copeland each scored twice, while Christian Dominno added a run at the top of the order. Hudson Cunningham and Riley Sanoy both drove in runs, with Sanoy finishing with two RBI. Nariyuki Dumlao had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Kai Halstead delivered a triple as part of Pierce’s extra-base production. The Raiders totaled six RBI and consistently applied pressure on the bases.
On the mound, Freddy Frias-Moreno (1-1) earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just two earned runs on five hits while striking out five. Josh Moore was dominant in relief, striking out seven over 3.2 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. Eddie Winkley closed out the final out to secure the 8-2 win.
Game Four: Pierce Walks It Off in the Ninth, 3-2
The series finale was a pitcher’s duel that came down to the final at-bat.
Pierce collected timely hits throughout the game, with Christian Dominno going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a triple. Jackson Copeland also finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Ethan Brimble added two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
On the mound, Koshi Arai started and allowed just one hit over 3.1 innings. Drechen Vinoray-Perreira provided relief before Santiago Guedez-Rodriguez (1-0) shut the door over five strong innings, allowing no hits and striking out five to keep Pierce within reach.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Raiders delivered. Andrew Dyk reached base on a fielder’s choice and moved into scoring position. With two outs, Jackson Copeland lined a single to bring Dyk home from second, sealing the walk-off victory and the series win for Pierce.
The dramatic finish marked Pierce’s second walk-off win of the young season and capped a strong Sunday performance as the Raiders took three of four from Skagit Valley.
